A traditional preservation of breed character vs. Barbaric and Unnatural.....
Do your research, gets the facts then you decided.
Ear cropping in dogs has always been a great topic for debate. I think it is safe to say that there are no real "medical" benefits directly related to ear cropping. Some will say that when ear's are cropped they are less likely to get ear infections, mites, etc. This however has not been proven to be true. Traditionally ear cropping was done on corso's to prevent injury while working large game and protecting farmlands. Not many of us use our corsi in this manner therefore it would seem that such a procedure would be unnecessary. Others will argue that ear cropping is a traditional procedure that defines and preserves the character of the breed, it can enhance good health and prevent injuries. There is no right or wrong answer to the age old question of should I crop? It is actually very simple. It is a matter of personal preference. Ear cropping for the most part is a purely cosmetic procedure done to alter the physical appearance of the dog. Corsi with cropped ears have a much more intimidating appearance which is preferred by most owners. The long and short is there are few medical benefits, minimal risk and no long term negative effects on the well being of the puppies. Cropped or not the temperament, loyalty, and other behavioral traits of the corso will remain unaffected. I personally prefer the look of a cropped dog over a natural eared corso. What it all boils down to is... ear cropping is a personal decision and should be made by you and your family! Cropping should be done between 6-10wks of age by a licensed veterinarian who is trained to preform such procedures. Ear cropping is a art and a bad ear crop is so much worse then no crop.
